EFFECT OF ALCOHOL ON THE BLOOD.

Dr. Richardson, in his lessons on alcohol, given both in Britain and The u. s. states, discussing of the activity of this content on the blood after shifting from the abdomen, says:

"Suppose, then, a certain evaluate of alcohol be taken into the abdomen, it will be consumed there, but, past to intake, it will have to go through a appropriate level of dilution with the water, for there is this attribute improving alcohol when it is divided by an creature tissue layer from a watering liquid like the blood, that it will not successfully go through the tissue layer until it has become billed, to a given point of dilution, with the water. It is itself, actually,  so selfish for the water, it will choose it up from watering designs, and deny them of it until, by its vividness, its energy of wedding celebration is tired , after which it will dissipate into the present of distributing liquid."

It is this energy of taking in the water from every framework with which alcohol mood comes in get in touch with, that makes the losing hunger of those who easily engage in its use. Its effect, when it gets to the flow, is thus described by Dr. Richardson:

"As it goes through the flow of the respiratory system it is revealed to the air, and some little of it, brought up into steam by the organic warm, is tossed off in expiry. If the quality of it be huge, this reduction may be significant, and the smell of the soul may be recognized in the terminated breathing. If the amount be little, the reduction will be relatively little, as the soul will be organized in remedy by the the water in the blood. After it has approved through the respiratory system, and has been motivated by the left center over the arterial routine, it goes into what is known as the moment flow, or the architectural flow of the patient. The bloodstream here increase into very little blood vessels, which are known as arterioles, and from these considerably little blood vessels springtime the similarly moment radicals or origins of the blood vessels, which are eventually to become the excellent waterways keeping the blood returning to the center. In its shifting through this moment flow the alcohol discovers its way to every body organ. To this mind, to these muscle tissue, to these secreting or eliminating human body parts, nay, even into this bony framework itself, it goes with the blood. In some of these areas which are not eliminating, it continues to be for a time diffused, and in those areas where there is a lot of the water, it continues to be longer than in other areas. From some human body parts which have an open pipe for offering liquids away, as the liver body organ and renal system, it is tossed out or eliminated, and in this way a part of it is eventually eliminated from the human body. The rest shifting circular and circular with the flow is probably decomposed and taken off in new types of issue.

"When we know the course which the alcohol takes in its shifting through the human body, from the period of its intake to that of its reduction, we are the better able to assess what physical changes it causes in the different human body parts and components with which it comes in get in touch with. It first gets to the blood; but, as a concept, the quality of it that goes into is inadequate to generate any content influence on that liquid. If, however, the amount taken be toxic or semi-poisonous, then even the blood, wealthy as it is in the water and it contains seven hundred and 90 areas in a million is impacted. The alcohol is diffused through this the water, and there it comes touching the other component areas, with the fibrin, that plastic information which, when blood is attracted, clots and coagulates, and which is present in the amount of from two to three areas in a thousand; with the albumen which prevails in the amount of 70 parts; with the salt which generate about ten parts; with the unhealthy matters; and finally, with those moment, circular systems which flow in lots in the blood (which were found by the Nederlander thinker, Leuwenhock, as one of the first results of microscopical statement, about the center of the 17th century), and which are known as the blood globules or corpuscles. These last-named systems are, actually, cells; their disks, when organic, have a sleek summarize, they are frustrated in the center, and they are red in color; along with of the blood being resulting from them. We have found that there are available other corpuscles or cells in the blood in small amount, which are known as white-colored cells, and these different cells flow in the blood-stream within the blood vessels. The red take the center of the stream; the white-colored lie on the outside near the edges of the blood vessels, shifting less quickly. Our business is mainly with the red corpuscles. They execute the most important features in the economy; they process, in excellent aspect, the fresh air which we breathe in in respiration, and bring it to the excessive cells of the body; they process, in excellent aspect, the carbonic acidity gas which is created in the losing of the human body in the excessive cells, and bring that gas returning to the respiratory system to be interchanged for fresh air there; in short, they are the important equipment of the flow.

"With all these areas of the blood, with the water, fibrin, albumen, salt, unhealthy issue and corpuscles, the alcohol comes in get in touch with when it goes into the blood, and, if it be in adequate amount, it generates distressing activity. I have viewed this interference very properly on the blood corpuscles; for, in some creatures we can see these sailing along during life, and we can also notice them from men who are under the consequences of alcohol, by eliminating a speck of blood, and analyzing it with the microscopic lenses. The activity of the alcohol, when it is visible, is different. It may cause the corpuscles to run too properly together, and to conform in rolls; it may change their summarize, making the clear-defined, sleek, periphery infrequent or crenate, or even star like; it may change the circular corpuscle into the square type, or, in very excessive cases, it may generate what I may call a cut down way of corpuscles, in which the change is so excellent that if we did not track it through all its levels, we should be confused to know whether the item considered were indeed a blood-cell. All these changes are due to the activity of the soul upon the water in the corpuscles; upon the potential of the soul to draw out the water from them. During every level of adjustment of corpuscles thus described, their operate to process and fix fumes is impacted, and when the gathering or amassing of the cells, in public, is excellent, other complications occur, for the cells, u. s. together, successfully pass less easily than they should through the moment blood vessels of the respiratory system and of the common flow, and prevent the present, by which local damage is created.

"A further activity upon the blood, implemented by alcohol in unwanted, is upon the fibrin or the plastic content colloidal issue. On this the soul may act in two different ways, according to the level in which it impacts the water that maintains the fibrin in remedy. It may fix the water with the fibrin, and thus eliminate the energy of coagulation; or it may draw out the water so determinately as to generate coagulation."
